Shelly Marshall, who wrote Day
by Day and a whole bunch of other recovery books, has put together
another wonderful book of mediations. Designed for newcomers in their
first 30 days of recovery, the book is set up first by day, and then
with mediation for each hour in that day. By my count, that's 720
individual meditations!
Each meditation is a brief statement
followed by a prayer. For example, Day 13-1 p.m. reads:
One
of the things you can learn right now is that it is OK not to have
all the answers. For the first time in a long time, no one expects
you to know anything. Enjoy it!
Let me know it is OK not to
be strong. It is OK to rely on my Higher Power.
Hour
to Hour is also divided by weeks, and each day within the week has
a theme. For instance, the first day of the first week addresses
issues ambivalence, the second day looks at doubts, etc. for four
weeks and thirty days.
Although aimed at the newcomer,
there are plenty of gems for those of us who have been around awhile.
Take, for example, Day 18 at 3 p.m:
Unity
in our program does not mean conformity. Unity means joining for a
common purpose, despite our differences. We can disagree without
being disagreeable.
When I disagree with another on
the program, it does not have to lead to unpleasantness and it does
not have to lead to "quitting" the program.
I
suspect I'll be giving this one as a gift to anyone in their first
year or so, as well as any newcomer.
